This sucks so bad. Billy is my friend in Boston, his sister Maura and I have been friends for more than 20 years and I have known Billy as long. He had a seizure last week at work and they took him to Mass General, where a scan showed a mass in his brain and swelling. The biopsy came back yesterday, and it appears to be an astrocytoma, grade 3 (out of 4, higher is worse) termed an aggressive cancer. Its survival rate is in the low single digits, and he is starting intensive radio and chemotherapy today, likely to cause brain swelling and seizures--and that's the treatment.
Why the fuck does this stuff happen to good people? He's a great guy, loves his wife Mary and their three daughters very much, drinks like a madman and can party with the best of them. And shame on me for wishing this on someone in the White House instead but I did. Anybody but Billy. I want to canoe with him in July at Brew Canoe, I want him to see his little girls grow up. I want his brain back without all the crap in it.
