No Sanctum for Santorum

As much as I usually despise this "neocon" gay pundit, Andrew Sullivan gets the Santorum debacle right in his Salon commentary, reprinted here for free on his own weblog.

Even if you think you have heard all you care to on this Rebublican idiot, read Sullivan's piece for a look below the surface. There are scary issues revealed in the interview with Santorum, and they are not just about gay sex. Santorum's own weaselly ass-covering press release does nothng to address the facts of the interview either.

The winds of style blow our way...

In honor of Baze's Presidency of the 1759 Society, I present official notice from London of what many of us already suspected. Six-pack abs are on their way out!

So enjoy that pint or two!

Liberal

I'm sick of conservatives using liberal as a bad word. Where do they think their LIBERTY comes from? All of us democrats should start saying we're members of the party of LIBERTY. (my argument and anger is simplistic, yes. But so is bastardizing the meaning behind the word liberal.)

Beer in Killeen Anyone?

As president of the Austin Chapter of the Guinness 1759 Society (a group named to commemmorate the year Guinness was founded), I get to plan some leisure events from time to time. Most involve beer.

On SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH we are taking a bus from Austin to Killeen (see map link below), where one of our members has opened a brand-spanking new Irish pub called The Irish Dragoon, serving food, drink and merriment just a few miles short of now empty Fort Hood.

That's right, we're going to Killeen, to christen the new pub. Our bus will leave Austin this Saturday April 26th at 4, and return around 9. Tickets are strictly limited to 25, so get yours now.

1759 member George Shott has opened his new pub in the very snazzy Killeen Mall (outside, with its own entrance), just a few miles from Fort Hood. Authentic and cozy, the pub features fine food and great beer, and if I know George, good music, great craic and a ton of historic Irish military memorabilia.

The Details
We'll meet at B. D. Riley's on 6th (park at Littlefield Building garage, on Brazos between 5th & 6th) anytime on Saturday afternoon April 26th, with a bus departure set for 4:00pm SHARP. We will have Guinness and snacks on the bus, and make a pit stop along the way for you weak-bladdered folk. The trip to Killeen takes just 90 minutes. We should arrive about 5:30, and will plan to have dinner and drinks in the new pub before returning about 7:30pm, expecting to be back in Austin around 9:00pm

The ticket is $15 and covers the bus transportation and beer and snacks on the trip. Food and drink in Killeen are your responsibility. We'll provide the fun and stimulating intellectual conversation!

Come with us and help to "christen" the new Irish Dragoon! To reserve a ticket, see John Erwin at BD Riley's with your $15, or email me right away at 1759@stevebasile.com. This will sell out fast, as only 25 tickets are available--don't wait.

SATURDAY APRIL 26: $15. LEAVE B.D. RILEY'S PUB AT 4PM SHARP, BACK AT 9-ISH (NOT SO SHARP)
