anniversary blues

I did my best to avoid watching most of the wall-to-wall anniversary coverage (which meant that I only saw a couple of hours worth), but I must complement NYC on the memorial at Ground Zero. Simple, heartfelt, moving, with a refreshing absence of warmongering, it was a wonderful contrast to the blustery politicking at the Pentagon. I've been very sad this week, but watching the families gather in the pit, laying down that big wreath of roses, was a comfort.

I must complement ABC, too, for not taking up half the screen with clumsy graphics. Ah, my boyfriend, Peter Jennings, tasteful as ever. (Okay, I know he doesn't actually produce the newscast, but still...)

On the other side of the coin, it was cathartic to read all the thoughts-that-mustn't-be-thunk in Salon.

And for all you fans of creepy synchronicity, (cue Twilight Zone theme) the number drawn in the NY State Lottery yesterday was 9-1-1...
