I was pleased to see that the kid's web portal at Yahoo that my nephews and niece use, known as Yahooligans! provides this remarkably supportive link in response to the search term "gay."
I'm not sure what I was expecting, perhaps nothing at all. The other two links provided were to Famous G&L People in History and a pretty cool site for Children of G/L Parents. The "Be Yourself" link was surprisingly well-done. It was refreshing to see such a thorough, supportive and non-judgemental link providing information to kids who might have Yahooligans as a primary web access point. What do parents think?
Did anyone watch the HBO movie about 9/11? If you think you can't be horrified all over again, think again. They compiled video and stills from some 180 people and told the story from the viewpoint of Rudy G, and let me tell you, it was powerful. Rudy is such a camera whore, I kept having conflicting feelings about him walking among the wreckage with a mike in his hand, yet at the same time he was using the medium to direct people out of southern Manhattan and try to calm fears. He was amazingly candid for a national politician.
One of the Mayor's senior staffers lost her husband in the attack, and she is liberally sprinkled throughout this movie. It's absolutely gut wrenching. Many controversial shots are included, including close ups of people jumping and hitting the ground. There are voice messages left by the doomed, and just endless pictures of people in grief and terror. Even the multiple new views of the planes hitting the buildings seemed fresh and not so exploitive. For example, I never really understood the fact that the people on the streets around the WTC heard the jets roaring into the buildings, but on several of the home videos you can hear a deafening roar as the jets speed towards their targets. Video of people dashing into stores to escape the oncoming rush of smoke and debris as the buildings fell was compelling. There were thousands of quiet heros that day. People giving up their spots on elevators because they were older and let the younger people escape in time. It goes on and on.
I have this gig doing research for a dumb TV show, Dinner & A Movie, on TBS. So, I'm sitting here, frustrated, because there just isn't any press on Craig T. Nelson! No profiles in People, no interviews in Interview... don't those people know that I need an article to photocopy to pad out my research on the Shelley Long vehicle Troop Beverly Hills? Sigh.
At least I don't have to look up anything about Hulk Hogan this time around.
Anyway, this site is a fun source of bitchy celebrity analysis. And call me if you have a stash of obscure Craig T. Nelson interviews...
