I read a news report that a "senior leader" in the Al Aqsa Martyr Brigade was killed in Israel. How does one get to be a "senior leader" in an organization whose mission is to become martyrs? I would think those with seniority in that job are, by definition, failed (or at least inadequate) martyrs.
Other phrases, some oxymoronic, others simply moronic, that annoy me:
"Foreign Imports" - As opposed to those less-troubling domestic ones...
"HIV Virus" - Like the CIA Agency, the IRS Service, & the PIN Number for the ATM Machine...
"NEWK-yuh-lur power" as Dubya butchers it every time. Is the man illiterate?
"Creation Science" - Huh?

Dot-Com Company" - Was there ever a more definitionless phrase?
On Ken Duncan's free toys page here, he's got some shockwave jigsaw puzzles. Go on, do the more difficult ones. 30 minutes and 28 seconds for me to do the Syndey Opera one, and my mouse finger is killing me now.
So, hi. Never posted before -- too busy with postpartum depression! A few items, folks:
They found Chandra Levy. I am genuinely sorry for her family's loss -- but won't it prove ironic if after all this mess, they discover that she simply fell into a ditch?
Hi, my name is Kathy, and I am a weatherholic. We're entering that monotonous time of year, when any interesting weather disappears, and even Jim Spencer can't make the endless string of highs in the 90s/lows in the 70s seem intriguing... but in case we actually get anything resembling a front, or if you remember this in October, check it out: the best local weather report, Bob Rose's weather analysis from the LCRA.
And I'm sort of sad, because my favorite telenovela ends soon... Six Feet Under rocks. It's a cliche to be addicted to an HBO series, but this one has truly been a bright spot, helping us to survive new parenthood. Characters on television with something approaching human complexity! Wha?
Visit Chunklet to vote for "the shittiest band you've ever seen". There are a disturbingly high number of votes for The Fixx. Did people actually go to see The Fixx, on purpose? (I think there should actually be an additional category: "the most embarassing band you've ever seen"... ) My votes? Category E: Kansas. Category S: SRV & Double Trouble, opening for the Clash.
Chunklet is also soliciting submissions for a list of most overrated albums, and words that should never ever be used in band names (i.e., "Sonic," "Jesus"). Send yrs to overrated@chunklet.com...
Well as many of you know I have been in one of the things I thought I would never end up in... a long distance relationship.
A picture of me and my sweety (Nakia) can be seen at: http://www.io.com/~ripnrob/2ofus.jpg. That was taken a few weeks ago in front of Nakia's flat in Chicago.
I have to say that being in a LDR is perhaps the hardest thing ever ... I can say I now understand why so many of my friends say never ever get into one and why so few actually work. Two months into our relationship thing are going well, and I find myself more and more smitten with this guy.
Nakia will be performing this Saturday May 25, 2002 from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at a place called Gentry on Halsted in Chicago. I will be there and if anyone else will be in Chicago for the weekend, please stop by. If not you can always check out his MP3s.

The weather has been nice enough these last few days for me to drive around in the Thing, so if you see me don't be afraid to honk and wave. Although most people honk, wave, and laugh so I might not see its you right away. ;-)
I was pretty ill last week. I ended up in the ER with a sore throat and a rash all over my body. I am currently blaming Dave and Busters. I was there the day before I started to feel ill. There was a distinct smell of sick when you walked in but it was gone soon. I should have never stayed, but I did. I played one game and ate dinner there with friends all but one have come down with something weird. I suppose the moral of the story is ... if you smell sick leave.
I suppose thats all the new news I have to publish... Take care everyone.
The Supreme Court is deciding on the issue of whether to allow public listing of convicted sex offenders, the gist of the argument being that if they've done their time, should they be free to be left alone like other criminals? Being a father of two, I have major reservations about recinding the publication of their names/addresses/pictures, etc. Just this morning I typed my zip code into the Tx registry, and found two men living on the street my family did for one year while looking for our permanent home. It's friggen frightening.
For my part, if you are convicted of a serious crime like a crime against children, you have forfeited a certain amount of your civil rights, like the one to privacy. I want to know, I need to know if you are near my children. I want to know if our soccer coach, scout leader, priest or teacher is a convicted sex offender.
