BUST magazine is having a benefit for themselves this Saturday at Beerland. It's a $10 donation to get in. A great punk band is playing at 9PM called Same Day Service. They do such a great cover of "Crazy For You". So, if you dig chicks in big, butt-stompin' boots accesorizing with a "Hello, Kitty!" purse (and who doesn't?). . .
So the thing that holds the arm with that floating ball in the toilet tank broke off over the weekend, and I was getting constipated so I decided to visit my lesbian friends in orange aprons at Home Depot to see if I could fix it.
Not only did I put in a whole new thing (I went with the highly-regarded FluidMaster 400A, the new kind, without the ball thingy but a vertical float instead) but I actually replaced the water supply line as well with a spiffy new color-coordinated flexible hose.
Feeling muy macho and as yet uninjured, I also took on my HP LaserJet, which had been jamming and feeding multiple sheets of paper on its own for some time. Thanks to the cool folks at FixYourOwnPrinter.com I got a small kit of parts, and (MOST importantly) a step-by-step video showing how to take the thing apart and reassemble it. 30 mintes or so later I had a working, non-jamming printer again, and no leftover parts.
Safe Haven No More? Holland has had a well-deserved reputation for tolerance earned over the years. But today's assassination, in which Dutch right-wing politician Pim Fortuyn was shot dead may change that some. By most measures the guy (whose name is pronounced "FOREtown") was an extremist; to some he was a freakishly Pat Buchanan-like xenophobe riding a disturbing resurgent wave of rightist sentiment in Europe and The Netherlands. But he was just a politician, running a campaign of his ideas. It's sad to think this can happen there too.
I'll be winding down my stay in Austin over the next 2 weeks. On May 17th, I graduate from the University of Texas and take my shiny degree with me. ("Mmmmm, I love that new graduate smell!") Next up, I'll be leaving for LA and, soon after, the Warped Tour. From time to time, I hope to share with you the touring experience or at least some punk rock gossip.
