Jack, You mean Joey and Chandler have NOT hooked up yet? I thought I saw that in the episode called "The One About Trojans." Or was it "The One About Being REALLY Wasted?" Maybe I'm just projecting.
Enron is on my mind these days--this presents a significant "appearance of impropriety" to say the least. Some observers, like Robert Scheer, whose Nation column Connect the Enron Dots to Bush claims: "Enron is Whitewater in spades." Bush received more than $2 MILLION from Lay and Enron execs since 1993. Ken Lay personally donated $326K to the Republican party in soft money, raised $100K more from others as a "Pioneer" and his wife donated $100K for the inaugural. What did they get? Among other things, their way on deregulation in CA and PA, and a lot of hard-to-get telephone numbers for their emergency Rolodex it appears.
I am willing to bet there is MUCH more to be discovered about this one. Cheney's little "Energy Policy Committee" alone should make for some fun hearings. There are plenty of Democrats who got Enron money too, though none that come close to the level of key Republicans (73% of all Enron money went to Republicans. But even Hillary got $950, and Ted Kennedy got $1K). Then there are all those insiders like Karl Rove and others in the White House who managed to sell their Enron stock (to avoid conflict of interest) when it was near its highest valuation. In the words of CNN's Bill Press: "If Congress and Ken Starr could spend two years investigating a 20-year old $100,000 real estate investment in Arkansas, they can and must examine a multi-billion dollar energy scam in Texas, where millions lost their shirts." What's Ken Starr up to these days?
hello. i am posting to bellyfuzz. i am sitting in a chair. it is not an aeron chair however. dell apparently doesn't care about it's employees. i feel very inadequate because i just read the post about airport security and that was a lengthy informative post focused on one topic. there was a point, there were points to back up that point, and a summation. what do i have? i have a point and then other points to draw attention away from the fact that my initial point really isn't a point at all as much as it is an observation. i'd like to think of it more as a declaration. now i'm going to shock and amaze all of the bellyfuzzters with a nonimportant rant all centered around one very tantalizing individual.
did everyone see ocean's eleven? good. great movie. i loved it. i love stephen soderbergh. i loved the cast. i had a good time. however, at the end of the movie there is a scene with brad pitt and george clooney. george clooney says to brad pitt, "ted nugent called. he wants your shirt back." i was outraged. he read the line wrong. or it was written wrong. something was wrong. that is an old hacky comedy line. i know because i like to bring it back every chance i get. the line should have been read, "ted nugent called. he wants his shirt back." i don't know. i shouldn't be so hasty. maybe a scene was cut from the movie where ted nugent actually went over to brad pitt's character's house and borrowed a shirt and then brad gets it back. then, ted actually calls brad pitt and really wants brad's shirt back. brad is a nice dresser. who knows? or maybe i got the one bum hack print of the movie. so the best part is that entertainment weekly quoted that line correctly (not accurately). so i wrote them an email and commended them for their "mistake" but brought up the fact that the actual line was read wrong. i hope george clooney doesn't find out that i'm trying to expose his error and decides to not fall madly in love with me in 2004 (that's when it's supposed to happen). anyhoo, stephen soderbergh called. he wants his script back.
I'm in nerd heaven! I'm posting this from a FreeBSD box which is using a Windows ME system (frightening, I know) to do Internet Connection Sharing -- woo hoo! I know Jerry and the Steves may scoff as it's not a Mac, but having my own BSD system is like coming home. My joy will be complete when I get Road Runner (and a boy friend :-)
The most recent issue of Benneton's Colors magazine is about mental illness. The web site version is just amazing. It uses Flash and lots of popups, so you may want to temporarily disable any ad protection software. Also note that it is mostly not cheery in the least. Salon did a great article about it here.
Mushroom Management "Keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em shit" seems to be the order of the day in Washington. "THIS WHITE HOUSE THINKS THE PUBLIC HAS NO RIGHT TO KNOW," Richard Reeves syndicated column, notes the non-event surrounding the latest release of "important" papers from the Reagan Library, pursuant to Bush's Executive Order limiting access to all presidential papers.
Oh yeah. One more thing. Private plane and small airport security are also unimproved since 9/11. Might also be a problem. Regarding Saturday's little suicide joyride...some authorities are concerned "because the little plane breached the airspace of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, but there were no jets there to intercept it — even though the base is the command canter [sic] for the U.S. efforts in Afghanistan.
Instead, two fighter planes were scrambled from Homestead Air Force Base — 200 miles away, near Miami. They were unable to reach Tampa before the plane hit the office tower."
I give it 7 days before "sweeping new FAA changes" are announced to plug the latest hole revealed by this near-tragedy.
